Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute

The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) is a public research center in the autonomous region of Catalonia in Northern Spain dedicated to increasing scientific knowledge and transferring it to improve the care and lives of patients. The institute is attached to one of the large teaching hospitals in the Barcelona area; the Germans Trias University Hospital (HUGTP), which belongs to the Institut Català de Salut (ICS), and is located on the biomedical campus that surrounds it, Campus Can Ruti. It is a CERCA centre; a member of the bio-cluster supported and supervised by the Autonomous Catalonian Government. It is also accredited as a Centre of Excellence by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (Spanish Government) and in this capacity acts as an umbrella organization for scientific research on the campus, where it works closely with the other centres located there and sharing core facilities. The IGTP has subscribed to the European Charter and Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, and it obtained the HRS4R award in July 2019. http://www.germanstrias.org/about-us/hr-excellence/. Our campus is home to several biomedical research institutions, including IGTP, all of which are affiliated with a high-complexity hospital. Additionally, we have a teaching unit for medical and nursing students, which is part of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. We also have a state-of-the-art simulation center where both professionals and students can practice various clinical scenarios.

IGTP has previous experience in Erasmus+ programme, participating in the projects 4D (Digitalization of Learning in Practice Placement_ Home - 4D - Digitalisation of Learning in Practice Placement) and HEAL (Internships in Future Hospitals_The HEAL Project). These projects have explored various innovative teaching strategies, such as simulation-based learning, the adoption of new technologies, and practice-based learning. Additionally, IGTP maintains a strong collaboration with clinical mentors in practice placements through both education curricula and research initiatives. The presence of a teaching unit and an associated hospital on campus allows IGTP to work directly with clinical mentors, who play a crucial role in student education during practice placements. This unique setting positions IGTP as a key facilitator in transferring project outcomes into real clinical training environments. In this context, IGTP provides students with valuable guidance to support the development of gender perspective competencies in their future healthcare professional career (nurses, physiotherapists, doctors, etc.).
