The University of Primorska (UP) comprises six faculties, one research center, and one university library. UP employs 513 researchers and higher education teachers who focus their studies on management, educational sciences, mathematics, computer science, biodiversity, Mediterranean agriculture, sustainable use of wood, health and disease prevention, tourism, philosophy, intercultural studies, history and heritage, and linguistics. By the end of 2024, 5,643 students were enrolled in various programs across all three levels of education, including 1,295 international students. Currently, 165 doctoral students are registered at the university.
Since 2023, UP has been a full member of Transform4Europe (T4EU), a European university network that includes over 150,000 students and 10,000 researchers. Along with UP, T4EU connects nine other universities and one associate member.
Additionally, UP is included among the 38 most innovative higher education institutions in Europe (ENIHEI), an initiative of former European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education, and Youth, Mariya Gabriel. ENIHEI serves as a forum for the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and experiences in the field of higher education innovation, promoting creativity, entrepreneurial mindset, and talent development.
UP has extensive experience in project management, including financial, legal, and administrative project management, as well as coordination within various international programs, predominantly co-financed by the EU.
The annual budget of the UP in 2024 is EUR 40.7 million, of which EUR 22.98 million is obtained by the UP to finance higher education activities and the remaining funds through various schemes to promote research and development work. In 2023, the UP implemented 176 projects, including 15 Horizon Europe projects, 79 ARIS research projects, 15 research programmes (eight of which are parent programmes), 33 bilateral projects with organisations from 9 countries, 21 Erasmus+ projects, 13 projects supported by the Structural Funds and cross-border programmes.
The University of Primorska, Faculty of Health Sciences (UP FVZ), is a recognized research and educational member of UP. Through fundamental and applied scientific research and development work, it serves as a center for the creation of knowledge in the field of health provision and maintenance and related activities. As a member of UP, it is integrated into a wide network of connections with the environment, both with institutions in the higher education and research space at the national level and with the broader social environment, especially the economy.
In 2024, UP FVZ was participating in several research programs (6) and projects (9) co-financed by ARIS, various domestic research projects co-financed from national funds (programs of various ministries) (6), and international research projects co-financed from cross-border cooperation programs, the European Social Fund, the European Regional Development Fund, and other financial instruments (3). Researchers are part of the UP FVZ research group 2413-001, which currently includes 71 researchers and professional/technical associates.
